Desire Luzinda, born Rachael Nancy Luzinda on August 15, 1984, in Ibanda, Uganda, is a celebrated Ugandan singer-songwriter and philanthropist. Her journey began singing in church, which paved the way for her dynamic career in music. Rising to fame in the 2000s, Luzinda captivated audiences with her versatile linguistic and musical abilities, recording in Luganda, English, and Swahili. Songs like 'Mubiite' and 'Nyumirwa Nyo' established her as a linchpin in the Ugandan music scene, seamlessly melding genres such as bongo flava and afrohouse. Her impact extended beyond music; she was a popular TV and radio figure on WBS TV and Dembe FM.
After a scandal in 2014, Luzinda's career took a transformative leap. She openly discussed her experiences, which led to a pivotal switch to gospel music, resulting in the poignant album 'Transition'. This period was also marked by her humanitarian efforts with the 'Girls and Goals' campaign, providing empowerment to Ugandan youth.
In 2021, Luzinda launched the Desire Luzinda Foundation International, focusing on orphans and struggling adolescents in Uganda, further cementing her legacy as an advocate for education and mental health.
